PREMIA Best Student Paper Award (General Information)
The Pattern Recognition and Machine Intelligence Association (PREMIA) invites students to participate in the PREMIA Best Student Paper Awards for papers published within the current calendar year. The awards are divided into three categories:
- Gold Award: Winners receive a cash prize.
- Silver Award: Winners receive a cash prize.
- Honourable Mention Award: Recipients receive an award certificate (no cash prize).
The submission deadline is listed on the PREMIA website or specified by PREMIA. Shortlisted candidates will be notified.
Eligibility Criteria
- PREMIA Membership: The main author must be a current PREMIA member (either Full or Student). Expired memberships must be renewed by the submission deadline to be eligible. Non-members must apply for membership by the deadline to qualify.
- Student Status: The main author must be a registered student (full-time or part-time) at a Singapore tertiary institution at the time of submitting the paper for publication.
- Work Done in Singapore: The paper must report on work completed while the author was a student in Singapore.
- Publication Year: The paper must be published within the specified period of the previous or current year, in a journal, book chapter, or conference proceedings.
- Relevant Topics: The paper should be on a topic relevant to PREMIA, including but not limited to areas such as:
- Pattern recognition and machine intelligence (both theoretical and applied).
- Domains like computer vision, image processing, natural language processing, speech processing, robotics, and others.
- Methods such as statistical techniques, neural networks, deep learning, fuzzy logic, and more.
Submission Instructions
To submit your paper, follow these steps:
- Complete the PREMIA Best Student Paper Award entry form.
- Attach the following three documents:
- A PDF of the published paper.
- A PDF of the acceptance letter and reviewers’ comments.
- A supporting statement from your academic supervisor (in PDF).
- Submit a single ZIP file containing all the documents via email to PREMIA.
Note:
- Only one submission per candidate is allowed. For papers co-authored by multiple students, only one submission will be considered.
Judging Process and Results
Shortlisted candidates will give oral presentations during the PREMIA Members’ Night. Part of the judging will include audience voting by PREMIA members present. Award winners may also be invited to speak at PREMIA workshops or the Annual General Meeting.
The results will be announced at the PREMIA Members’ Night, and all candidates (shortlisted or not) are encouraged to attend the ceremony.
