There is one Research Fellow (postdoctoral) position available in the Computational Bioimage Analysis (CBA) Unit of the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), A*STAR, Singapore. General requirements:

    • Self-motivated scientist/Ph. D graduate to pursue a scientific career. Independent and passionate about biological image processing projects;
    • Good team player. Able to undertake independent research projects under the direction of the PI together with other lab members
    • Hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field of computer vision, image processing or machine vision;
    • Good general knowledge and concept of science and engineering;
    • Excellent scientific/technical writing and communication skills
    • Prior experience in working with image analysis projects (Industrial or academic).

Specific technical requirements:

    • Excellent experience, knowledge, and skills in one or two of the following programming languages, i.e., Matlab, C/C++, Java or Python;
    • Excellent knowledge and skills in digital image processing;
    • Hands-on skills for numerical computational algorithms;
    • Rigid and logical thinking of scientific problems;
    • General understanding of machine learning, pattern recognition, and artificial intelligence is a plus, but not compulsory;
    • Basic knowledge of cell biology or pathology is an advantage;
    • Able to present research achievements at internal/external seminars and conferences

Successful candidate will be part of the research team responsible to deliver state-of-art solutions using 3D computer vision and computer graphics technologies to generate point clouds, reconstruct surfaces, process point cloud / mesh surfaces / spline models, align and match different models, and perform 3D geometry analysis and pattern recognition.

Successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Design and develop 3D computer vision system and algorithms to generate point clouds from 2D images

  • Design, develop and implement novel surface reconstruction algorithms to reconstruct surfaces from point cloud

  • Develop novel point cloud representation methods, such as local/global shape descriptors

  • Develop 3D geometry analysis, retrieval, match, registration and pattern recognition algorithms

  • Perform simulation, validation and evaluation experiments

  • Interact with other research and engineering team members for the best outcome of the research

  • Publish in top journals and conferences, file technology disclosures/patents

 

Job Requirements:

  • Possess excellent knowledge and minimum 5 years of industrial or applied research experience in 3D computer vision, point cloud / mesh processing, surface reconstruction, and 3D registration.

  • Familiar with PCL, OpenGL and/or other computer vision and computer graphics open source libraries
